"My photographs are like the first chapter of an unfinished novel. The images I present spark the imagination of the viewer. Questions such as "Where is the model looking?" or, "What is happening in the scene?" are often posed by the viewer. As the viewer does this he or she begins to "write" the subsequent chapters of "the novel". Creating a sense of mystery in my photographs is often prevalent. Sometimes I will print my photographs very small so that the viewer must move in closely to search for the clues to the mystery within the photograph. Additionally, my photographs are about light and shadow, shape and form, as well as about recreating for the camera a place, person, or still life in such a way that has never been seen before. Often I present familiar places, objects and people in new ways that become unusual and unfamiliar. As people look at my photographs, I not only hope that
they are excited and intrigued by them, but more importantly,
that the images linger in their minds long after they leave them." |
