Through the motif of the heart, I find a shape
that conjures up common
emotions. I find that by mixing the heart shape with the basic shapes
(squares, spirals, circles, and triangles) that make up most things, I can
create images that stir up feelings about our relationships with others
and
with our own selves. Although each piece has a certain meaning to me, what
each work represents is left up to the viewer.
I often use wood cut because it's a material
that has been a very important
part of my life having worked as a woodworker for many years. I also like
using wood in creating art because it adds its own voice to the art.
